Can answer engines
read your site?

Enter an address and we report 12 items as pass or fail. We do not produce a composite score — which item is blocked is more useful than a number.

We send one GET request to the public page. Addresses behind a login, and internal addresses, cannot be checked.

WHAT IT CHECKS

What it looks at

12 items. Each one carries why we look at it, and how to confirm it yourself without taking our word for it.

  1. 01

    HTTP response

A document that is not 200 is not indexable, and what is not indexed never becomes a citation candidate for any answer engine.

Check it yourself — Check the status code of the first request in your browser's Network tab.

  2. 02

Is the body text in the HTML source?

Many AI crawlers either do not execute JavaScript or execute it only in a limited way. A screen full of text can still be a blank page to a crawler.

Check it yourself — Open the page source with Ctrl+U and search for a sentence from the body. If it is not there, the crawler cannot read it either.

  3. 03

    Search-side AI crawler access

What decides whether you get cited in an answer is the search bot. If it is blocked, the path to citation does not exist.

Check it yourself — Check /robots.txt for OAI-SearchBot being blocked with Disallow: /.

  4. 04

    Training crawlers (informational)

    not judged

Blocking training bots signals 'do not use this for training' and is separate from answer citation. We do not judge it pass or fail — blocking can be the right call depending on the business.

  5. 05

    Sitemap declaration

A sitemap is how crawlers discover URLs. Submitting does not guarantee indexing, but without one discovery is slower.

  6. 06

    Canonical

When the same document opens at several addresses, the signal splits. Pointing elsewhere is fine if that is the intent.

  7. 07

    Indexing allowed

A document with noindex is not indexed, and what is not indexed never becomes a citation candidate.

  8. 08

    Structured data

Not a device that guarantees visibility but a supporting means of conveying facts. Putting into schema what is not on the screen is a violation.

Check it yourself — Put the address into the Rich Results Test (search.google.com/test/rich-results).

  9. 09

    Title and meta description

These are the sentences that get chosen in a results list. The title carries the subject; the description carries the reason to choose this one.

  10. 10

    H1

The place a document declares what it is about in one line. Several of them split the subject.

  11. 11

    Question-shaped subheadings

A noun-phrase heading says what the page is about; a question-shaped heading says what it answers. What an answer engine matches on is the latter.

  12. 12

    llms.txt (optional)

    not judged

Not an official standard, and Google states it does not use it in search. We do not judge it pass or fail — its absence is not a problem.

What this tool does not measure

We do not let what went unmeasured look measured. These are the things this tool cannot tell you.

  • Whether answer engines actually cite this site — that requires a question set measured repeatedly across several engines.
  • Citation share against competitors — that only holds with competitor values measured under the same conditions.
  • Whether the content answers the question well — that needs a person to read it.
  • Index status — we checked robots and noindex, but actual indexing has to be confirmed in each search console.

Why there is no composite score

Combining several items into one number makes the result depend on the formula and makes it impossible to trace back what improved and what got worse. A score whose weighting is not published is itself an unverifiable figure.

So we report only pass or fail per item, and the value we observed. We apply to our own tool the standard we have demanded of other companies' figures.

It is read-only. We send one GET request to the target site, and we do not run automated repeat searching or ranking manipulation.

Passing the technical checks but still not cited?

This tool goes as far as whether the site can be read. Whether answer engines actually cite it comes from repeated measurement with a question set — the free audit covers that.

We reply within one business day.
