NAVER AI

Naver AI Search reference —
where you publish
decides the outcome

Korea's domestic answer engine draws on a different mix of sources than overseas engines. And because Naver Blog blocks overseas AI crawlers, the same article reaches entirely different engines depending on where you put it.

SHORT ANSWER

Naver AI Search is the generative answer Naver attaches to its search results. On Korean-language queries the mix of referenced documents differs from overseas engines, with a relatively high share coming from Naver's own services — Blog, Cafe and Knowledge-iN. The crawler is Yeti, Naver's search crawler, and the entry path is Naver Search Advisor.

Only items that can be verified are listed. Rows with a verification method on the right can be reproduced yourself.

Operator
Naver
Crawler
Yeti (Naver's search crawler) Check the Yeti group in robots.txt and your server log.
Entry path
Naver Search Advisor — site registration, ownership verification, sitemap submission, collection requests
Source mix
A high share of domestic documents, with Naver's own services (Blog, Cafe, Knowledge-iN) referenced relatively often
⚠️ The Naver Blog trap
The robots.txt at blog.naver.com blocks overseas AI crawlers including GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot (measured 2026-08-03). A Naver Blog post still works for Naver search, but it carries no weight as evidence for overseas answer engines You can confirm this yourself by opening blog.naver.com/robots.txt.
Therefore
The same article reaches different engines depending on whether it sits on your own domain or on Naver Blog. The two channels serve different searches and have to run together
Locality
On local queries the composition of top documents varies sharply by province. Navirang publishes measured results for the top 10 web documents across all 17 provinces

CONDITIONS

What it takes to be cited in Naver AI Search

These are the items that differ most in this engine. Principles common to every engine are collected on the answer engines hub.

01

You have to be registered in Search Advisor

Without ownership verification and sitemap submission, collection itself is slow. For domestic search this procedure is effectively the starting line.

02

The original has to live on your own domain

An article that exists only on Naver Blog cannot be read by overseas answer engines. Keeping the original on your own domain and using the channel as an inbound path is the safe arrangement.

03

Domestic listings and local details have to match

If the business name, address and phone number are written differently per channel, they do not resolve to a single entity. The effect is larger the more local queries an industry gets.

04

You need question-shaped documents

Generative answers use paragraphs that answer questions as their material. A company profile and a product list alone cannot become material for an answer.

MYTHS

Common misconceptions

Only the ones we meet repeatedly in audits.

  • “Writing hard on Naver Blog will get you into AI answers too”

It works inside Naver but does not reach overseas answer engines, because blog.naver.com blocks overseas AI crawlers in robots.txt. Trying to hit both goals through one channel and losing one of them entirely is a common outcome.

  • “Naver is domestic-only, so it has nothing to do with AEO”

It is where domestic customers actually ask. That is why Navirang includes it in the seven-engine set under the same conditions, and for domestic industries the share of enquiries traced back to this engine is not small.

HOW TO CHECK

How to check it yourself

A Navirang audit follows the same order. There is nothing stopping you from running it internally first.

  1. 01

Check registration, ownership verification and sitemap submission status in Naver Search Advisor.

  2. 02

Open blog.naver.com/robots.txt yourself and confirm the overseas AI crawler blocks.

  3. 03

In a logged-out session, run local and industry queries and record whether your business appears in the generative answer.

  4. 04

Run the same query on Naver and on an overseas engine and compare how the source mix differs.

FAQ

Questions about Naver AI Search

Each answer is written to be quoted as it stands.

Does writing on Naver Blog help with AI search?

It helps inside Naver but does not reach overseas answer engines. The robots.txt at blog.naver.com blocks GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot and others, so ChatGPT and Perplexity cannot read Naver Blog posts (measured 2026-08-03). We therefore recommend keeping the original on your own domain and using the blog as the channel that handles Naver search and inbound traffic. The two channels serve different searches, so they have to run together.

How do you measure Naver AI Search?

Under the same protocol as the other engines — fixed question wording, repeated in logged-out sessions, with mentions and citations recorded separately. That said, the source mix on Korean queries differs so much from overseas engines that the same question produces results that have to be read differently. Navirang puts both families in the same report but keeps them on separate lines.

Why does local search have to be looked at separately?

Because the composition of top documents differs sharply between regions. In our measurement of 17 provinces × 2 queries × top 10 web documents = 340 items, the share of blog and cafe posts varied widely by region. Within the same industry, changing the region changes whether your competition is a company website or a personal review post — and that changes the response. The raw data and the method are published.
