Discoverability
Can AI take our document at all?
A crawler has to be able to reach it and it has to be in an index before it becomes a candidate. Blocked here, no amount of extra content reaches the answer.
AI SEARCH VISIBILITY
Being found, being understood, being cited, being recommended. These are four different problems, and the place to fix is different for each. This page is for locating which one you are stuck on.
IN ONE PARAGRAPH
AI search visibility is the whole body of work that makes a brand discoverable, understandable, citable and recommendable in generative AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and others. Execution splits into three layers — SEO for discovery, AEO for citation in the answer, GEO for brand visibility inside generative AI — and Navirang handles all three in one design with AEO as the central axis.
FOUR STAGES
Each stage carries what to fix when it is the one that is blocked. Without that, it is only a diagram.
Can AI take our document at all?
A crawler has to be able to reach it and it has to be in an index before it becomes a candidate. Blocked here, no amount of extra content reaches the answer.
Can facts be extracted from what it took?
Paragraphs have to stay complete when cut, and the facts on screen have to match the values a machine reads. Writing that reads well for people and writing that extracts well for machines are different problems.
Does it use those facts as evidence in the answer?
Whether our document is taken as a source when the question is answered is the outcome of this stage. Being mentioned and being cited as a source are different metrics, so we count them apart.
Does it put us forward when asked for options?
For a brand to appear as a candidate to "which one is good?", your own documents are not enough — entity consistency across channels and external sources are needed together.
THREE LAYERS
The layers differ, so what you measure differs. Reading one layer's metric as another's is where the judgement goes wrong.
| Layer | Full name | What it does | What you measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO | Search Engine Optimization | Puts the document into an index | Indexing · ranking · traffic |
| AEO | Answer Engine Optimization | Makes the document a candidate for the answer | Mention rate · citation rate · citation position |
| GEO | Generative Engine Optimization | Makes the brand material for the answer | Recommendation appearance · citation share · description accuracy |
WHERE TO START
Find the line that matches your symptom.
“Our pages barely show up in search at all”
You are blocked at discovery. Start with indexing and crawler accessibility.
Start with indexing
“We rank in search but never appear in AI answers”
This is understanding and citation. Paragraph structure and the facts a machine reads get fixed together.
Citable content design
“AI states our company information incorrectly”
This is entity consistency. Align the notation and sources, build the correction evidence document, then confirm it is cited again.
See the GEO area
“We do not even know which stage we are at”
Start by measuring. We fix a question set, put it to the answer engines directly, and record the present state.
AEO audit
FAQ
It is closer to a containment relationship. AI search optimization refers to the whole body of work that makes a brand discoverable, understandable, citable and recommendable in generative AI answers, and SEO covers the first of those stages, discovery. A document that is not indexed does not even become a candidate for an answer, so SEO is not something to replace but the foundation.
Which stage you are blocked at matters more than what you call it. Navirang uses AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) as its specialism, and uses the name GEO alongside it when widening to brand visibility inside generative AI.
They may, and they may not. On questions where the user reads the answer and leaves, a citation does not turn into a visit. So we do not look at traffic alone; we record mentions, citations and recommendation appearances separately — whether the brand stayed in the answer is confirmable even with no visit.
Navirang uses 7 answer engines as its baseline: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Claude, Naver AI Search, Copilot, Gemini. Collection routes and refresh cycles differ per engine, so we do not infer one engine from another's result and record them separately.
We cannot promise a period. When each engine re-collects, and what it selects on, are not public. What Navirang promises is recording a baseline before starting and re-measuring under the same conditions so change can be confirmed.
That is what the audit is for. Send us a URL and we record the present state across the four stages, with the measurement conditions attached.
We reply within one business day.
