GLOSSARY

LLMO
Large Language Model Optimization

One sentence of definition, and how it differs from the concepts it gets confused with. The definition is written to be quoted as it stands.

DEFINITION

LLMO refers to optimization aimed at getting large language models to recognise a brand and its content and use them in answers. It is another name for what is effectively the same activity as AEO and GEO.

Easily confused with

How is it different from AEO and GEO?

Judged by the task list, it is not. All three ask for the same things — documents machines can read, clear facts, a consistent entity. There are three names not because there are three concepts but because they were coined in three places: AEO from a search engine's answer areas, GEO from a 2023 academic paper, and LLMO from naming the model itself as the target.

So which name do we use?

Navirang uses AEO. But there is little practical gain in arguing terminology. The test we work from is one question: can AI find, understand and use this company's information accurately in an answer?

In practice

  • If a proposal says LLMO, ask for the task list. It should look almost identical to an AEO or GEO proposal.
  • A proposal to split the contract in two because the name differs can amount to charging twice for the same work.
